Well, I guess the alternative you would likely advocate is that the US should go and kick everyone's @ss in a global knock-down drag-out and reshape them in our image then...

The problem with the US is that we have created a domestic set of laws and moral standards of conduct that just don't find many adherents on an international scale.

The truth is that the US is a model for how the world will eventually have to look, one homogenous society with laws protecting and enforcing the rights of every individual regardless of ethnicity.

Of course, I'm not foolish enough to believe US society is perfect, because its not. It is still a work in progress with many unresolved issues. But here you are an American because you are born here or achieved citizenship, not because you are a certain ethnicity. There are no more than a few nations which grant citizenship based upon geographical place of birth and not based solely upon some ethnic bloodline, the US the most notable of these.

Tell you what Rrman, I realize the US is an imperfect nation existing in an even more imperfect world. But I won't be losing much sleep over it until I see more people trying to emigrate from the US than are currently trying to immigrate here.

There is no greater standard by which to judge the merit of a particular society since people have always sought a better life and found it here in the US.

Regards,

Ron
