My reply was intended for message 212, I just didn't bother going back there before hitting the reply button.

However, short covering can lead to huge volume increases anyway because it starts the price moving upward and the momentum players jump on board. I believe the other 6 reasons listed in message 212 also played major roles in Friday's volume.
