a simple reason why ad supported ISP's will fail

the same reason that Doubleclick is shaking in it's boots.

basically, as high speed access becomes more available,
people will no longer bother looking at ad banners as
their eyes focus first on the center of the screen where
their content will appear in the blink of an eye.
Think about it... if ad banners were on your TV
screen while you watched "Friends" would you go
look at them? ad banners will become obsolete just
as quickly as they became the mainstay advertising
vehicle as soon as high speed ISP access is the norm.

in most major metropolitan markets, Cable Modem service
or ADSL type connections are months, not years away.

Bill, I enjoy this discourse with you, thanks.
actually, I was asked to give advice on a
private placement of a Chicago based ISP that
wanted to use a combination of "lifetime" ISP
service for a flat fee with advertisement driven
revenue. My input may have delayed that placement
by the underwriters until they re-thought their
business plan. Needless to say, they still have
not gotten the investment community to support it.
