Mat,
Yes, I saw that too. BTW, when the Microsoft rep (looked like he was about 14 yrs. old <g>), was demoing Active-X controls (which is basically VB embedded code interspresed between the HTML), so in effect you have a total "program", as opposed to HTTP/HTML alone (which is "stateless"). BUT, they make sure you say to keep this on the SERVER, and the user on the Client side only sees HTML. So, they make this out to be like "the best thing since sliced bread, right?).
Lookee here folks, you can change programs on the server side, and it's totally transparant to your users when they come in to work in the morning. Nice, new fields, database refreshed (SQL server of course), and look people, WE ARE GREAT!
So then, I ask the guy, Uh... say, you can do the same thing with a java class applet right? I mean embedding a java.class compiled program can get the same results as embedded VB, right? Of course, he stutters for a second, and HAS to agree with me, but then gets into "slick" mode again, and after he agrees, he goes on. Meanwhile, the audience REALLY doesn't know what the f*ck I'm talking about (but the MSFT guy does <g>), and the audience keeps "nodding their heads -- yeah this is GOOD stuff, nod, nod).
Sooooooo, could Novell make something out of this? Yeah, I guess so. If I can do it, why can't they <grin>. The real question is do they "want" to do it. Sigh.......
