INTERNET--(esecurities.W)--May 10, 1999 - "ONLINE TRADING JUMPS 40 PERCENT HIGHER IN APRIL"

"...Online brokerages processed a record 630,000 trades a day in April, 40 percent higher than the 450,000 trades a day in the first quarter. Online brokers processed nearly 50 percent more trades than in the last quarter of 1998.

COMMENT: In an unrelated event, Arthur Levin of the SEC went public with some startling statements about how fast daytrading has grown and how dangerous it is. But the growth of online trading remains very strong, growing at well over 100% per year rates. We are happy with our positions in E-Trade and Charles Schwab (SCH) and are watching Merrill Lynch closely. We are not worried about Merrill's long term viability, but they are going to have to make some changes fast. We are considering adding Ameritrade (AMTD) too..."
