Symbol Technologies and 3Com to Deliver Wireless LAN
Solutions for High Speed Data Communications
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 1999--Symbol Technologies
(NYSE: SBL), a worldwide leader in wireless local area networking
(LAN), mobile computing and data capture systems and services, and
3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS), a worldwide leader in converged
networks, today announced they have co-developed an 11Mbps direct
sequence wireless LAN solution based on Symbol's award-winning
technology for wireless data communications. This high-speed,
IEEE-standards-based system offers long-awaited benefits of mobility
and streamlined network management in the office that have been
long-proven in vertical market applications at lower speeds.
The business could bring significant new revenue to Symbol in the

Symbol will market the 11Mbps direct sequence offering under
Symbol's Spectrum24 solution set. With its high-speed data transfer
rate, the 11Mbps wireless solution supports new applications involving
large graphics files and multimedia. Spectrum24 also features a 2Mbps
frequency hopping system to support data and voice-over-IP
applications common in healthcare, retail, education, logistics,
hospitality, manufacturing and other industries where extended
coverage and battery life are essential.

The wireless LAN also offers corporations greater flexibility -allowing
them to wirelessly add temporary workgroups and to
