Bell South is Efficient.....

Efficient Networks Delivers Speedstream ADSL Modems to BellSouth Region
ADSL Modems Available Today Through Authorized Internet Service Providers
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 1999--Efficient Networks, Inc., a leading supplier of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) customer premises equipment (CPE), today announced that it is collaborating with BellSouth to promote easy-to-use, high-speed ADSL Internet and data access for customers in the 30 markets where BellSouth is deploying ADSL.

Efficient Networks has been qualified by BellSouth to supply its SpeedStream ADSL modems to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offering BellSouth ADSL service through a distribution arrangement with Innotrac, BellSouth's authorized fulfillment vendor.

The relationship between Efficient, BellSouth and Innotrac represents an innovative model for DSL CPE distribution that effectively meets the needs of carriers, ISPs and consumers alike.

''Efficient Networks is pleased to help expand ADSL access to subscribers in the nine states where BellSouth provides telecommunications services,'' said David Stefan, vice president of sales for Efficient Networks, Inc.

''What's exciting about this announcement is network service providers who are offering BellSouth ADSL service can immediately place orders for the SpeedStream DSL modems through Innotrac, and arrange for installation of the modems to consumers and businesses.''

BellSouth sells ADSL service to ISPs and other network service providers, including Interexchange carriers and competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), on a wholesale basis. The network service providers then offer ADSL service to their customers in the BellSouth region.

By year's end, BellSouth will offer ADSL service to more than six million capable lines in thirty markets across the southeastern U.S.

Efficient Networks also is working with BellSouth to provide G.Lite compliant modems to consumers in the BellSouth region through the same distribution model.

''BellSouth focuses on delivering the most reliable and most flexible service to its ADSL customers, both wholesale and retail,'' said John Cahill, executive director -- BellSouth Advanced Networking.

''As part of this commitment, BellSouth is working to ensure that network service providers who offer our service have access to ADSL modems that have been tested and are fully compatible with our central office equipment.''

Innotrac currently distributes Efficient Networks' SpeedStream 3060 PCI bus internal modem, for use in Windows-based personal computers, and the SpeedStream 4060 Universal Serial Bus external modem. Both products can deliver dedicated access at rates up to 8 megabits per second downstream -- nearly 150 times faster than 56Kbps analog modems -- using standard copper telephone lines.

The SpeedStream ADSL modems provide a simple installation procedure and pre-configuration capabilities, allowing service providers to reduce installation times at the consumer residence or business. The advanced diagnostics built-in to the modems enables service providers to quickly isolate and resolve network issues.

Efficient Networks' comprehensive line of SpeedStream DSL CPE includes Ethernet-attached external modems and routers, consumer-installable Universal Serial Bus-attached external modems, and internal add-in modems and adapters.

This broad line provides a range of standards-based CPE solutions for service providers, ISPs, PC OEMs and integrators. To minimize training and support calls, Efficient's ADSL products have been designed to be uniquely easy to install, use and service.
