Veridicom Debuts Next Generation OpenTouch Sensor, Certified Modules and Imaging Software; Company Showcases Production Products at CardTech/SecurTech Conference

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 1999--Veridicom Inc., a Lucent Technologies spin-off and the leading provider of silicon-based fingerprint authentication solutions, Monday announced the introduction of a breakthrough next-generation sensor, the FPS 110.

The sensor features enhanced imaging capabilities, industry- leading ESD performance and improved ruggedness to provide high accuracy and reliability for fingerprint authentication.

The latest improvements to the OpenTouch sensor include increased sensor sensitivity coupled with a major improvement to the Image Plus software module, called DFX (difficult finger extraction). DFX ensures high image quality for even the most difficult-to-image fingers. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance has been significantly improved with Human Body Model (HBM) air discharge of more than 15 kV.

Another major breakthrough in the silicon fabrication process has improved sensor hardness by a factor of 30, to 2.5 mJ -- nearly equal to the chip fracture energy. The end result is a 500 dots-per-inch image that leads the industry in quality, accuracy and precision.

"We're very excited about the impact the FPS 110 will have on the industry," said Michael D'Amour, CEO of Veridicom. "Since our OpenTouch sensors are the first to be used with everything from smart cards to laptops, their quality and performance will be the benchmark against which industry standards will be set."

These technological advancements will make their way into a wide variety of products including laptops; peripherals such as keyboards and PCMCIA cards; smart card readers; and access control devices. The FPS 110 will also be found in Veridicom's next generation of desktop peripherals. Veridicom's latest modules for USB and parallel port connectivity have received both FCC and CE (European) certification.

They are in production and available in volume.

Veridicom Inc. is the leading provider of silicon-based fingerprint authentication technology. The company develops and markets OpenTouch technology, a complete system of hardware and software modules, to OEMs, value-added resellers and systems integrators.

OpenTouch technology replaces passwords and PINs by using fingerprint templates for authentication. PC users control the authentication process to ensure that privacy is maintained.

Veridicom's unique, open architecture has enabled it to become the first to integrate fingerprint authentication into a comprehensive range of applications, including laptop, desktop, enterprise computing, system security and smart card applications.
