The Hunan Garden makes a great hot soup base, it's dark, and has five-spice powder in it, and a lot of whole red pepper pods. I usually get it with boiled beef, thick hand-made noodles, vegetables, and dried peppers, but they will use it for mushroom soup if you are a vegetarian. They also use it for their duck soup, which has pieces of Peking duck. If you have a cold, that stuff will loosen everything in your sinuses, and clear them out. Get plenty of napkins. When I get a touch of strep throat, after a bowl of that soup, I can talk again, at least for a while.
