OT to Limtex

The British Royal family went out of their way to distance themselves from their German ancestry, changing their name from Saxe-Coburg Gotha to Windsor.

Becaise of the losses of WW1, where literraly a generation of men were killed, Britain was anxious to contain the
Germans, without a war, pretty much at all costs as you say.
However, it wasn't a shock to the British to find themselves at war
with Germany. It was expected for quite some time (at least since 1936 - the Spanish Civil War)

Your original assertion that Britain had no interest in Europe was
wrong. There are several excellent books you can read for background.
PM me if interested.
