Steve, there is nothing wrong with the phrase "both of you", as I used it.

Fill the sentence out a bit:

I sentence you both to twenty lashes.

What this means is that the two of you get identical sentences. And I submit it conveys the meaning even better than:

I sentence each of you to twenty lashes.

It is not enough for you to state your case, sirrah; you have to prove it.
