Cybersurf's 3web Network has become the largest Internet service provider
in Calgary, with a continuous user base in excess of 60,000. Since its
Calgary launch on Aug. 8, 1998, 3web has seen a new user subscriber rate of
several hundred per day, and Cybersurf projects 100,000 continuous users by
summer. Cybersurf is currently negotiating new points of distribution for
3web's free installation CDs in Calgary and Edmonton. The 3web software is
currently available on CD ROM at Cybersurf headquarters in Calgary.
The free 3web software has been made more accessible to the public by
placing it on 3web.net. Calgarians who currently use an existing
paid for Internet service can now download the full (3web plus Netscape
communicator) or partial (3web only) software suite and never pay for
Internet access again.
Recently the 3web.net site was modified enabling users to download the 3web
version 2.0 software suite. This feature not only enables Cybersurf to
distribute the software without underlying cost but it also enables
Cybersurf to track the previous ISPs of each person downloading the
software. This information has shown increased awareness and that the 3web
Network is equal or superior to all other ISPs, including some of 3web's
high-speed competitors, as an enhanced Internet provider.
The 3web Network is a proprietary software application that was developed
by Cybersurf Interactive Media, a division of Cybersurf Corp. It offers its
Calgary and Edmonton users a powerful and secure portal to anywhere on the
World Wide Web, as well as E-mail and e-commerce functionality. The 3web
Network is subsidized by commercial advertising, and is 100 per cent free
to the user. Cybersurf's proprietary 3web advertisement-supported
technology is unlike any other in existence, in that it brings highly
targeted, demographically-specific advertising to the user's desktop. While
traditional portals spawn advertising within a Web browser (making it easy
to bypass), 3web's portal operates independently of any Web browser and can
never be hidden or disabled. No matter where the user travels on the
Internet, 3web's advertising is always visible. It is because of this
feature that advertisers on 3web can be guaranteed exact impressions and
can target highly specific demographic profiles.
