I have heard that the Nasdaq is a lot worse than the VSE as they use market makers to conduct trades which leaves the door open for manipulation (not to say there is no manipulation at the VSE). I have 80% of my portfolio in the VSE and sleep well. The Toronto and Montreal exchanges are tightly regulated but there are always the "bad apples". The Alberta exchange is great for speculation just make sure you do your DD. The Canadian OTC is similar to the Nasdaq so I tend to stay away from those companies until they move to a bigger board.
