TomNY: What NPEC is offering, as I understand it, is telephone calling over the Internet, but between two regular TELEPHONES, rather than between two computers or between a computer and a telephone. I don't believe that anyone else is doing this yet. There is one company I've read about which recently began to offer telephone to telephone Internet calling, but each telephone must have a special device attached (about $300 each) AND the Internet calls must still be coordinated. We don't yet have the details of how NPEC's system will operate, but if it works without the need for costly special devices on each phone, and without the need for coordinated calling, they will really have something.
You asked a very good question. I was surprised that our resident savior, WLD, didn't use your question as another opportunity to try and trash NPEC. Apparently, WLD is unable to criticize the SUBSTANCE of what NPEC is planning to offer. I find that very encouraging. |
