For what its worth, you also have to consider the quality of the
companies management and tech types. These fabless producers
make a lot of cash in the under supply period and if they are wise
they plow some of those earnings back into product development.
ALSC has tried the fab route and it got them into reorganization
because of the debt.

Since then they have begun developing non-SRAM products including
a new video chip which is already showing up on new cards. They
may never be as diversified as an Exar or even IDTI. But if they
have the ability and good fortune to hit with hot products the fabless
will do as well as the fab owners. Look at how ICST has been
in a rut during this entire run up.

Both you and Claugus seem to have good points which should be taken into
account (particularly if you trade for the short term); but, for the buy and hold
folks it is quality of management and product.

This has been a very interesting and helpful thread. Thanks for letting me
insert my two cents.
