>>After buying a marginable stock today and having it deducted from the Cash side of my account, I called Customer Service to have it corrected. The rep ended up arguing with me while trying to explain how margin works: if you have cash in your account all buys will be deducted from your Cash balance, even marginable stocks. Margin only "kicks in" when you have no cash left.<<

Well that is true. Margin only kicks in when you run out of cash balance. But your buying power should only go down 1/2 what you paid for the stock. Do they have real time account balance info now?
