Carl, I think the bond market is pricing in the expectation that the
Fed will raise at the next meeting. I believe there wouldn't be any tears shed in St Peters should VEBA dispose of the excess of their position. It has been an excruciating experience for them. There is a definite pickup in Taiwan, and now Samsung has dropped the other shoe as well. If they can get the capital to finance the 100% increase in capex they're announcing, it will be enough to bring capacity back in line with demand in Asia. WFR then could be back at break even again by Q2 00. I don't really expect any definitive move by the equipment group before Aug. There'll be the occasional hotspot (like SFAM last Friday). Lots of people are champing at the bit and will pile on the momentum wagon, but there just isn't any reason to get hysterical yet.
