Hi Jack: RE>AOLnet already has more POPs than does PSI -- though I guess it's possible AOL could seek to short term lease capacity from PSI. <
-------------------------
boardwatch.com

You will find the info on all the major internet backbones at the
above..and can even get a map of their cable systems, with a
brif history..and can seperate the chicken fat from fact.
-----------------------------
Like there is no such thing as AOLnet..the company that belongs
to AOl..is ANS CO&RE..thats what carries the AOL data to and
from, and between interconecting points..IT consist OF LEASED
data lines..has 119 pops..and none of the interconecting lines
are really major ones..the data has to snake it's way via a
bunch of 45Nbps lines before it ever gets to any major backbone
such as an OC-12 running 662Nbps.
PSInet...HAS 350 pops..like almost 3 times as many as AOL..,but
in my opinion the backbone is still substandard..and mostly
45 Nbps...
----------------------------------
What gets me is how they project such big growth..over lines
put down way before the real internet explosion..already this
stuff is runing at 135% capacity..and routers are haveing
problems..the fumbdums just looked at was the people coming on
line..like the highway could handle as many as did...wrong..dong,
in fact it's already chocked up, MCI is the only one with bandwidth,
at this time that can really take on more traffic..and not have
big bottle necks and brownouts...
------------------------
PSIX..is having problems..if there is a deal..and I do not know
of one..it will be a paper swap deal as neither has any real
cash..PSIX is down to 7.625...and will likly take any kind of
offer..all AOL has to give is stock..which would dilute AOL
stock..but help PSIX..it's a sneaky way for AOL to make a
seconadry public offering, if you do hear of it, don't forget
the FCC..will look it over good..and could block any such
deal..seperate the noise from the facts..the rumor had me going
too , and checked PSIX options...not enough action to give it any
real merit yet..maybe some people with small bets hoping to
benifit from some hype..and then jump out..but no real big players
have bought into the options as of yet..
hate to one up you on the POPS...but thats just to far off
base to let go...119 pops to AOL( really ANS ) a company that leases lines...to 350 POPS to PSI a company that at least owns some of it's
stuff.
Be sure to check out BBN planet..and read the deal were they are
contracted to do the work upgrading some AOL stuff..dig down
past that and make the connection at how AT&T..is involved with and almost controals BBN..tell me it's not complicated..?..
lot af fabracation going on..hard to come up with facts, so
many twists and turnes why ?
Also look at how ANS was first built out as a not for profit company,
then AOL came along..so the infarsturture started tax free..hmmm
one way the big boys get gov hand outs..convert it then charge
you for what you really paid for in taxes that they avioded.
Its a little like the gas alcohol tax scam that our good
ex canidate for president sponsored fo his friends.
The whole system is corrupt..so I guess that justifies their
actions..?
jim

offering..
