Gary,

Re: Whitney may be but Celerons ?

"SiS has ensured that the SiS630 is optimized for the latest Pentium !!! and Celeron CPUs."

Yes the 630 is for the Intel chips. And there is a similar one for the socket 7 and KIII.

the key here is that AMD will be embracing the 133 SDRAMs while Intel will not even support the 100Mhz bus with celeron for at least 6 -8 months. So for example a k6-2 466 with 133 FSB would be much higher performance than a k6-2 475 for example.

In addition Intel does plenty of business selling 10/100 adapters into the SOHO and small biz market.

So this low cost chipset spells some trouble IMHO.

It allows a high performance very low cost k6-2 and K6-III system to be built particularly for the home SOHO market with integrated LAN, Modem, DVD etc for the low end market.

I suspect that Intel will not be embracing this system at all.

I would look for AMD cpu releases optimized for 133 Buses sooner rather than later.

Regards,

Kash
