Today while watching the time lapses between transactions on XSNI, it became apparent that the volume began to dry up, opening the door to the walk down/panic sells.
I learned something reading Anthony's thread. It is not necessary to buy your entire position at once. They regularly buy 25%-33%-50% of a short position, incase the trade goes against them, they can add to create a more realistic cost basis. There is no reason why this approach is not equally valid for longs. It not only limits the risk, but also allows for an effort to support a stock at a time when it looks as if the control is going to the MM's. for lack of buyers to put up a fight.
There were certain times when it looked to me that the MM's gave this stock some breaks, they held it at 6 1/4 and 5 1/4 for a decent period of time. If there had been any buying pressure, it could have taken off. It seemed to me the lack of buying during those periods gave the MM's a green light to take the stock under 5 and really give it a stomping.
On these thin ones, sometimes it pays to plan your approach to help the stock, in turn helping yourself to maximum profits. <JMO>
