re: Java...and "consider a different ISP, cable modem..."

My post was not directed at the content or quality of service, and bears no relevance to specific Gem "picks", per se. Though you should know, Jenna, I consider your content superior out of the twenty or so other daily e-mail "alerts" I get from other sources - most of which are garbage pump 'n dumps.

Regarding the technological aspect of Java-based content, my comments have more to do with policy than technology. Companies that intentionally "firewall" Java applications prevent Java classes from being downloaded to the client and restrict their subsequent launch and/or viewing. It is manifested as a server-side restriction on incoming applet (*.class) types.

Policy restricting access to Java applications within the corporate workplace is usually enacted out of legitimate security concern and simply reduces exposure to outside risk (though, this introduces enormous inconvenience to those of us who trade "part-time" and onsite).

As for me, I have a laptop to circumvent such restrictions. Others may not be so lucky.

Respectfully,
Scrumpy

BTW, are there really that many web-tv customers out there?
