Dave, I am an internationalist, not an isolationist, and therefore I find our alliance system justified, and the use of force at times justified. However, Republicans are historically more cautious and apt to plan uses of force that are effective and limited. Democrats are much more prone to write a blank check for "humanitarian intervention", and to make a botch of the operation.
I have known libertarians for over 20 years. While they have much more influence in conservative circles, and in the Republican party, the Libertarian Party itself has made few electoral gains. You would have more clout as a faction in a major party. But if you are too much of a purist to stand being entangled in a coalition, I understand...
