I sent this poem to a very good friend of mine in Seattle and he shredded it by return mail. I wrote him a short poem back:

I read your letter on the squat
Dropping turds into the pot.
Criticism's mine to bear
But still I'm glad I read it there.

You're probably right! Perhaps simply stating the reality would have worked better, "Little blue child" or something. I wish I was erudite enough to understand the references you quoted, but alas... I was aiming more towards "suffer the little children." I am always torn (like most mediocre poets, I guess) between the desire for serious criticism and the comfort of praise. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
