Nomad, by "shredding" I presume you mean your friend "tore it to pieces." If so, your response was appropriate, IMO. <g>

Nothing erudite about my references, however. They may just show how old I am! Didn't you ever see Marlene Dietrich in the German-language film "The Blue Angel"? With Emil Jennings? The film takes place in a night-club, called, of course, "The Blue Angel", and it is based on a novel by Heinrich Mann. The film was what really launched Dietrich over here. Anyway, in my day (creak, creak!) it was a staple in the art theatres, year after year... Dietrich played this really sultry night-club singer, who entrances, then marries, a horrid school-teacher who had forbidden his students to go to the Blue Angel because of its "immorality." And then, of course, she humiliates him publicly...

You can see why I felt that the phrase "the blue angel" sounded out of place in your poem...
