Ancor Offers Sneak Preview of New SAN Fabric Management Software at Networld Interop '99

Fibre Channel Switch Features Make Life Easier for Resellers, OEM Partners

LAS VEGAS, Networld + Interop '99, May 11 PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR) will offer a sneak preview of its new fabric management software this week at Networld + Interop (Booth N1212). The Web-based management tool gives storage-area network (SAN) managers live access to entire switch fabrics, letting them "see" and control changes at a fabric, switch or port level.

Ancor will also offer a hands-on demonstration of its exclusive self- configuring ports. Unlike other Fibre Channel switches -- whose ports must be factory-configured in fabric (F_port), loop (FL_port) or switch-to-switch (E_port) mode -- Ancor's MKII switches configure themselves. This simplifies SAN installation and growth and also eliminates the need for integrators, resellers and OEM partners to stock large inventories of different configurations.

"It's time for the SAN industry to move from simply making things work to making things easy, and that's certainly a real objective at Ancor," said Carla Kennedy, Ancor vice president of marketing. "A component of that is making SAN switch management more than just pretty -- it needs to be robust and feature-rich. This is what self-configuring ports is all about and what our next-generation management GUI will deliver as well."

In addition to Ancor's own demonstrations, Ancor switches will be shown at the VERITAS-sponsored SAN Hot Spot booth (N1513), the FibreAlliance booth (S4923), Hitachi Data Systems (N1212), Hewlett-Packard (N1212), JNI (N2122), Emulex (N1212), ATTO (N1212), and CONSAN (N1212).

Ancor's next-generation management software is a Web-based tool for monitoring switch fabrics. It enables users to set up both hard and soft zones, check individual port status, and conduct diagnostics testing and system debugging. It will be available in late 1999.

Ancor's GigWorks MKII are used to create robust highly scalable interconnects linking multiple servers and storage devices. Exclusive Ancor features include secure hard zoning for data integrity and cross-connected configurations for larger and faster SANs that maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
