Howdy all, Blue, Joe, Mooons, Col Gold, Josef, and all others who served in the armed forces, may I take this opportunity to Thank You and express my gladness you made it through a military gauntlet alive and whole. As I have no personal experience with it, all I can do with much that you say is listen and learn and express my Appreciation.
Blue, you put many inarguable points in this great post...and Seconding them all starting with the title CLEAR THINKING. Many pressures conspire against a natural trend to THINK CLEAR, and the best thing we can do to help our kids is to point out these forces and their all-self-serving motives from the time the kids are very small, hoping what we said will be remembered as the kids are exposed to them. The time of lip-service respect is still here, but the days of blindly believing any so-called authority are over; the old days of trusting and allowing "It Takes A Village To Raise Your Child" are gone. The teachers who are driven crazy by fun halftime jobs paying 50 grand a year w/health insurance and a pension having the same level of personal risk as working in a Federal Building, a postoffice, or a bank for more worktime and less money should quit but instead they sucker like barnacles to the tenure, blocking out those who would do the job right and making life miserable for the good teachers who are the kids advocates and treat 'em right - why should anything such a person says aside from the subject lesson stand uncorrected if it's ridiculous as it so often is? The print media blatantly lies and in writing; the internet/radio/tv/movies lie; politicians put on empty shows with businessmen that end with, once again, the fox again placed in charge of watching the henhouse; advertising tries to manipulate the subconscious into relieving the weight of the wallet in their direction; wars are fought and the government leaders live undisturbed while people are killed; CEO's disrespect the shareholders; longtime employees are laid off from jobs and cheated out of their retirement and pension investments (see FTU if interested, I just sold it) when they're too old to land another decent position like people are widgets; that's enough there's plenty more but why go on... I guess my point is, the kids need to be shown these wrongs and also shown how to live with it while trying to engineer a positive change from one's small position of being just one person whenever there's an opportunity. They need to be shown by parental example how live with whatever existing conditions and that sometimes it's not possible to do so without feeling anger but to express that anger in any violent or hurtful to others way adds to the wrong. They need to learn at home how live a happy life regardless of the imperfections of society causing whatever personal problems they always do; hey that's life and what everyone gets, money won't protect ya from it. Widespread social problems will always be there, because as One Thing's Fixed Another Thing's Broken. "You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem" is a good saying to give 'em from early on, to assist their processes of CLEAR THINKING.
Blue, you gave so many other CLEAR THINKING HELPS that it would take me a month of posts to respond. They're Lying when they say that while military training movies and cadence songs are a large part of training to harden and inspire soldiers to kill...Yet constantly broadcasting violent songs teenagers memorize wouldn't inspire them to do anyone harm; then why do the Joe Camel ads get kids to smoke while the media violence doesn't make them kill??!!...(maybe it's that the leaders du jour don't like the smell of smoke or there are rivals who smoke or make money from tobacco that they don't like, is all. Maybe they're shorting the stocks LOL). What you say is so true & exposes the selfserving behind the widespread media doublespeak promotion of fragmenting a CLEAR THINKING 1 + 1 =2 chain of reasoning into a gullible dysfunctional illogical lab-rats-pushing-the-pleasure-button-for-the-endorphin-rush Dumbing Down of Our Young - only to fatten the Tophats bloated wallets further while they get off on making all bow down to their power to build or destroy at whim like they're still playing with toys while "channelling" their own anger and aggression is what it is really.
Here are some bad exposures for kids and the mentally unstable; and a mighty unpleasant atmosphere for the rest of us....(incomplete short list)
The Howard Stern Show, Rush Limbaugh, Jenny Jones, Ricky Lake, Tom Leykis, Dr. Laura, Springer, Montel; morbid weirdness as band logos,
Murderous Video Games, Monster-Robot Saturday Morning Cartoons, TV shows where one dies and another laughs, emphasis on death and violence in the news, mercenary magazines where weapons can be ordered by mail order; songs glorifying exploitive sex, obsessive relationships, anger, depression, violence, negativity;
ugly movies with messed-up relationships leading to someone dead; adults in charge allowing any child to harass another for any reason; adults in charge harassing the children themselves then permitting and provoking kids to act in kind to other kids while holding their own authority sacred like a clay idol; bigotry expressed in media stereotyping of characters; jokes made about serious life-and-death matters naming and laughing at the people facing them and then broadcast at large; close-ups of family members crying because one of their members are tragically dead; young boys and girls together in the same health class being told for the first time about sexual matters and means of birth control behind their parents back while the kids are told they're wrong 2B embarassed about it while parents are told there's nothing they can do about it except single 'em out and send 'em to the library instead.
Between us all, we've come up with alot broken that needs fixing. Now me, I'm concentrating on and starting with getting Howard Stern off the radio by complaining to his advertisers. Hittin' em in the wallet is the only way to get rid of 'em...other choice is censorship and useless legislation and who wants that.
I wrote to Pres Clinton email last night, I'll show it to you later. I'll send him a printout too, and write the same thing to two more email addresses, maybe just maybe it'll get through.
Good Work, Pals...if we all keep working to Take America Back we're sure to get somewhere.
Rome wasn't built in a day, nor did it fall in a day either.
Clinton in Hollywood + Political Contributions = Fox Watching Henhouse
Well so be it It's the wallets of We'uns Masses they're after anyway.
That's what it needs... A Boycott. "What if they made a violent movie and nobody came?"
Pals For Real,
Joanie
