I refuse to get involved in any YHOO board discussions...too much hype by uninformed "investors". So I will "limit" myself to informed opinions on this board. If I bore anybody, I apologize. My discussions are from a long-term (over 1 year) standpoint. I made a mistake, I should have flipped this stock (so much for a fluid market), so my plan B is to hold over 1 year and see how it goes. I believe mgmt will execute properly, and has cutting edge technology that advertisers will pay for...ie: shareholders will make money. That's why I own this stock.
Considering the AOL venture into TV, I think if I'm an ATHM stockholder, I'd be taking money off the table. Why? Their product is going to be commoditized..right now ATHM is leading the pack because they are generating a mass movement to the internet over TV, with what? High-speed access. This is great, but no killer app. There is no barrier to entry, the deals they are making won't hold up if all think they are exclusive...contracts are hardly worth the paper they are written on. WGAT offers high speed access, that's great, I'm happy, and it's true they are going to need to generate the masses (vis-avis great execution), but it is NOT an end-all to the big picture.
The big picture IMO involves content aggregation, how do you get it? By getting people (buyers) in front of your product. ATT.. et all could care less about how nice you'll have it that you can download faster than thru a phone line...what they care about is how much they can sell you. This is where WGAT's HyperLink technology puts them (vs ATHM, MSFT) over the top in this convergence. Why? Because if CBSSportsline wants you to buy a Phillies baseball cap, you are going to be more apt to buy it when: a) you are watching a Phillies ballgame on TV; or b) when you are surfing the web and happen to see their ad. The answer is a...how does this involve hyperlinking? I think you see where this is going. Advertisers will pony up for this technology because the web is getting to be a very big marketplace, and the winners in the future will be the ones who place their ad dollars the smartest. Hyperlinking IS a killer app. |
