Will DSL be capable of delivering High Definition Television, I think not!
Surely... you're not going to attempt to lull me into one of those "my pipe's longer and fatter than your pipe" contests, are you? Hope not.
It would be good to keep in mind that the last 1000 feet of VDSL is specified, optionally, for twisted pair, coaxial and fiber. The power at that point will be determined by the horsepower that resides in the node, not the distinctions of those pipes, which will all be capable, to within their intended design purposes, of what needs to be transported. I suppose the same rationale can be used for a wireless extension.
Beyond that phase of evolution, however, we may do away with the nodes altogether when optical goes unassisted (except for optical amplifiers) by the current last mile's model, which centers on delivery schemes based on electronically-defined properties and protocols.
