... will build on the Darwin core of Mac OS X Server and feature Quartz, a new graphics and windowing layer based on Adobe Systems Inc.
I hadn't caught this before, Michael, thanks! I'm pretty impressed with the speed of the latest Acrobat Reader (4.0), and I'm very eager to see what OSX looks like.
I wonder what kind of -- if any -- financial arrangement Adobe and Apple are engaged in for this Quartz deal? Any ideas? Surely it's not like building an app or layer with Java.... I suppose if OSX comes out and kicks as much ass as it's supposed to, Adobe could realize some nice royalties from OSX sales. Anyone know how this might work? Programming gurus out there? I'll ask Adam Nash over on the Apple thread...that guy knows everything (and if he doesn't know it, it ain't worth knowin').
I really haven't had a chance to get into OS8.6 yet, and to be honest, I really downloaded it more to be current than for any of its other benefits. I do notice, however, that everything seems to run a bit faster, e.g. menus pup up even more quickly than before. It's difficult to imagine apps like Netscape 4.08 (standalone), Appleworks 5, or any of the Office98 apps opening any faster than they already did on my 333Mhz iMac running 8.5, but there's a new snappiness there. And I like it. :) Never had any crashes before, so I can't really speak to the use of guard pages in OS8.6. Hopefully I won't find out.
GO ADBE!
