DCBEN, that IBM announcement of a PKI-enabled smart card is missing a biometric element. Without some kind of biometric, smart cards can be a pretty stupid approach to storing value or remote identification. It's a good question: Why isn't IBM putting a biometric identifier on the card? Maybe they don't yet have a convenient enrollment and reader infrastructure, and this is a quick and dirty system to get things rolling.
