Bankers testimonies expected to end CPI chapter

Brasília, 11 - The two testimonies scheduled for this Tuesday and next
Thursday of former Central Bank international area, Demósthenes
Madureira de Pinho and Salvatore Cacciola (Marka bank), and Luiz Antônio
Gonçalves (FonteCindam bank), respectively, are expected to put an end
to one more chapter in the political relationship between the government
and the Senate.
Within this context, the chances are now much narrower that Finance
Minister Pedro Malan be summoned to testify as a suspect in the
Marka-FonteCindam case.

It is believed that Demósthenes will repeat the content of his first
testimony, given at the Federal Police -- which coincides with what
Francisco Lopes and Cláudio Mauch said at the time and place -- that he
suspected Malan was involved in the Central Bank rescue of the two
banks.

The minister was outraged at the accusations to which he responded
calling "whoevever has any interest in investigating his role in the
case should do so. (By Ariosto Teixeira)
