Direct investments seen reaching US$ 23bn this year

São Paulo, 11 - Recent estimates point to direct investments related to
the federal government's privatization programs reaching US$8.7bn,
Roberto Padovani of the Tendências consultancy company said today. Main
companies to privatized this year are in the financial and energy
generation and distribution sectors.
According to the economist, the improvement in the domestic economic
scenario should also boost investments not related to privatization
programs, which should be lured by the country's good quality
institutions and market potential.

Padovani further stated that, even in a more conservative scenario, in
which the inflow of resources remains at last year's levels, direct
investments should reach close to US$14bn this year. Therefore, he
added, "it is more than reasonable to think that privatization-related
investments as well as those coming from other sources should amount to
US$23bn this year". (By Marcos Viesi)
