Thanks for that. Interesting stuff. As it happens the camera the writer was using is a Nikon Coolpix 950. Mine is an earlier model (300) which does not offer removable flash but uses fixed memory. We are, unfortunately, slave to the serial port provided and do indeed, have to wait for over a minute per pic, for a download. So downloading pics becomes an after hours activity along with back-up routines, defrag, etc. A royal pain really and the USB solution the author talks about with the SanDisk card reader is a big improvement. I was also stunned by the vast improvement the Nikon 950 offers over my 300. Looks like digital cameras have their own Moore's Law.
