Convergance: Monday, May 10, 1999 NBC will merge several of its Web assets with direct marketer Xoom and portal site Snap to form a new company called NBC Internet. NBC will get a 49.9% stake in the new company in return for $880 million in TV ads over 10 years. * * * Microsoft will invest $600 million in Nextel, taking a roughly 5% interest in the communications firm. The companies will sell wireless Internet services through a joint version of Microsoft's MSN portal site. * * * USA Networks is expected to abandon its bid to acquire Lycos, stymied by stiff shareholder opposition to the deal, according to people familiar with the matter. Lycos shares surged 18%. * *
