Will A Massage Give You That Viagra Feeling?
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai masseurs and traditional medicine makers say their herbal medicine and traditional massage can cure male impotence just as well as Viagra.
''Sixty to seventy percent of people suffering from impotence who have received my massage say they have resumed normal sex lives after the treatment,'' masseur Said Madloh told Reuters.
Said, a 59-year-old Muslim from southern Thailand, said he learned the secrets of traditional massage from his grandfather and had cured hundreds of people.
''There are four points and lines of arousal near the male sex organs and veins. After you relieve those, a normal sex life can resume,'' he said.
Said, also a visiting lecturer at a university in southern Thailand, said he had taught his skills to more than 100 women.
''Men who are impotent recover more quickly when they are treated by female masseurs,'' he said.
Said said it took about seven massage sessions of about two hours each to cure impotence.
A man undergoing his first two-hour course said he could already feel the difference.
''I feel really relieved,'' he said. ''I'm sure I'll be able to resume and enjoy my sex life once I finish the course.''
However he suggested taking herbal medicine along with the massage course and eating plenty of spicy Thai sausages.
Both men spoke at a week-long fair organized by Thailand's Institute of Traditional Medicine, a division of the Public Health Ministry.
The fair has drawn hundreds of makers of traditional medicine from all over the country and booths selling impotence cures attracted most interest.
''My medicine is selling like hot cakes because a lot of Bangkokians have problems with impotence,'' said one maker, Prakob Ubonkoa.
Prakob insists his ''klomnangnon'' pills klomnangnon literally translates as ''makes women sleep'' could compete hands down with imports like Viagra.
''Viagra is some thing that gives prompt results but my klomnangnon reacts more slowly you take it twice a day for one week before your erections begin to recover,'' Prakob said.
''Klomnangnon can definitely complete with Viagra there are no side effects whatsoever and it's a lot cheaper.''
The Public Health Ministry estimates about 400,000 Thai men suffer from impotence.
It permitted the sale of Viagra, made by U.S. firm Pfizer Inc, last August to curb a rampant black market that had pushed up its price to around 1,000 baht ($27) a tablet compared to a regular 300 baht.
