The company will not see significant revenues before 1Q2000. The product's official release isn't until June 99. Most companies won't design a new chip into a product prior to official release and will then take AT LEAST 6 months (up to 2 years) before they start shipping their products. So volume shipments won't be for a while yet.

A few private investors buying (and selling) 1,000 to 30,000 shares are not going to keep this stock's price up to the point where REAL spenders will notice it. GateField needs institutional investors such as insurance companies and mutual funds to buy their stock by the hundreds of thousands. To do this they have to be visible to the institutional investors. Most of these won't even look at a stock under $5. They also need established brokers to push this stock. Most brokers are hesitant to expose their clients to the risks rightly or wrongly associated with 'penny' stocks and stocks under $5. Hence the reverse split.
