Hi Roger - It look's as though the AS5000 series is selling well and the only problem is with the AS7000 machines (ie software microcode) that talk to the IBM mainframes and HP systems. It does provide EMC the opportunity to sell into this space but it also means SUNW must either (1) sell a homogeneous complete SUNW system (using the AS5000storage system) or (2) work with EMC with their larger customers.

Since EMC recently lost their HP contract, they will want and need to establish new alliances....SUNW and EMC by working together could provide a win:win for both companies.

I wonder if some of the larger IS departments might now choose complete homogeneous SUNW hardware as there are benefits to run independent and separate systems. IMO SUNW's management must be proactive on these future sales and if need be bring in EMC to help close the deals.
