Us anal retentive types can't let statements like this go by without comment.
" But America Online already has signed deals with SBC Communications (SBC) and Bell Atlantic that bring the company about halfway to its goal of being able to offer high-speed DSL-based access to anyone in the U.S. with a phone -- and an interest in paying the extra cost."

Best industry estimates are that DSL(DMT flavors) will reach only 70% of those with a phone. Personally I believe it will be closer to 50%.
Of course Paradyne's Hotwire MVL can probably reach 95% of phones. It is a "nonstandard" solution, but when technology moves faster than the standard setting process, woe to those who can't adapt. Paradyne goes public soon. Also 640kbs is fast enough for high speed data because servers and routers limit most of the net to only 400kbs anyway. Tim
