"If you are a Christian, you may believe that justice belongs to God, not to man.

I am a Christian, and don't know of any such teaching"

Judge not lest ye be judged. Jesus, with these words, prevented an adultress (Mary Magdelene, I believe) from being stoned to death. Its reference to the problem of hypocrisy is evident. Which is precisely what makes so many of our laws ridiculous. They were made and passed by men who had broken them at some point in time or another.

Certainly God wanted some judgements to be made by men, or He would not have given Israel the Judges. However, they were very limited in their ability to pass judgements. Certainly, God's laws at that point were very limited and allowed a great deal of leeway in terms of behavior. Certainly more than we are granted today.
