Very quickly we're seeing this Chinese business escalating into something with its own momentum - but, first there seems no question that the demonstrations were genuine. We forget too that under the surface there is an opposition in China - and there is opposition within the party itself. If the Chinese govt. had cracked down on the demos then would be putting themselves into a pro-US camp - not exactly where they want to be after their embassy has been attacked - possibly deliberately. An attack on a country's embassy is an attack on the country itself

I saw Letterman tonight and his monologue on China was tasteless in the extreme - but it is only a symptom of how insensitised we have become. All of this obscene comment accompanied by whoops and hollers from the audience.

The Chinese business is quickly escalating into a re-visiting of old attitudes - shades of the Yellow Peril, and the Red Manace.

What we are seeing is the New World Order flexing its muscles - and there's really no opposition. Aand the Chinese are alarmed. This brutal adventure in Serbia could not have happened in the Cold War when there appeared to be parity of military strength. Now we see America/Nato as bully boy with night after night of brutal onslaught against European people. And the smooth spin merchant Jamie Shea with his little smile talks as if most of us actually approve of what is going on.
