"…Zip has proved a powerful buzzword around the industry in past weeks. Wall streeters had a field day with reports that a major, top-tier pc maker planned to incorporate a Zip drive in its consumer PCs this summer, driving Iomega stock up more than $5 in one day. The rumor mill continues to churn, with reports that Packard Bell plans a June 1 launch of the Legend model 3585, a Pentium 100 sporting a Zip drive. Packard Bell wouldn’t confirm it, but sources close to Iomega acknowledged the two companies are talking…"
(Article goes on to speculate that given Packard Bell’s close ties to NEC, and NEC’s manufacturing support of the LS-120, that PB may in fact go with the LS-120.)
"…Expectations that big-name manufacturers would support LS-120, and not Zip drives, apparently helped boost Iomega’s position to the stock with the largest short position on the NASDAQ market during March. And while we haven’t confirmed the Legend 3585 (supposedly with 16mb of RAM, 1gb hard drive, 28.8 modem, and 6-speed CD-ROM at a $1799 MAP) actually is using a Zip drive, we did confirm the top-tier player mentioned in the previous report is in fact using a Zip drive."<<
