Fresh off the presses....for those of you doubters from earlier today...Shame Shame.
ANTRIM, N.H. (May 12) BUSINESS WIRE -May 12, 1999--In meetings held today between David Booth, Chairman/CEO, PC FREE, and Steven K. Sprague, President, Wave Systems Corp. an agreement was reached wherein PC FREE's computing systems will deploy, worldwide, with Wave Systems metering technology.
PC FREE is a privately held corporation located in Antrim, New Hampshire, and is a Strategic Bundler of Hardware, Software, Internet, Telephony, and E-Commerce Solutions based upon both metering solutions for 'rent to own' digital content and Broadcast capabilities; versus present day Client Server models. PC FREE has also acquired, to date, $119 million in private funding commitments.
PC FREE will provide to its worldwide customer base computing systems including: Computer, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Color Printer, TV Tuner Card, Software metering solutions, Digital Broadcast reception capability, Game Playing console, and Smart Card technology, coupled with unlimited Internet access, for a single monthly charge of USD $39.99, no contract to sign, strictly a 'month to month' rental, No Credit Needed.
PC FREE and Wave Systems Corp. also met with MCI Worldcom in Boston, this date, in discussions that will lead to MCI Worldcom's providing to PC FREE's customer/user base, worldwide, a 21st Century Telecommunication/Computing Solution , offering both integrated ISP and Broadcast Capabilities, versus current client server and broadband technology.
"ATT, now having co-opted the rest of the industry by tying up relationships with the majority of the cable world, and AOL, are the two major "portal plays" remaining. Yahoo and broadcast.com could be argued as the third. What each of them is lacking is the cost-effective, massive broadcast capability inTelecast will be providing. As MCI deploys xDSL infrastructure, that same broadcast content service will be made available, but modified somewhat to account for the difference in available bandwidth. A consortium of MCI Worldcom, PC Free, Wave Systems, and inTelecast, (inTelecast, a company whose mission is to provide secure data broadcast architecture, infrastructure and content services for Digital Television (DTV) terrestrial broadcasting to the PC) could accelerate the adoption of Data Broadcast and provide to our customer/users unparalleled 'today', not 'tomorrow', 21st Century Telecommunication/ Computing/ Internet/ E-Commerce opportunities." David Booth, Chairman/CEO, PC FREE.
PC FREE is also in the "final phase" of development prior to our deployment; currently anticipated by July, 1999; to the United States, Canada, Europe, Central America, South America, and Asia, of our systems and services.

Information indicates that PC Free will be using Compaq machines for their program. Whether the machines will be Wave-equipped at the box manufacturer's factory or as an add-on is not really clear, but in either case, this is another VERY BIG development.
The addition of Worldcom as a company with whom WAVX is working is also VERY BIG.

P.S. - driving in to work this morning I heard the tail end of a news item that Microsoft had made a major investment in Cable & Wireless. Another content-transmission-systems axis development. |
