CHINA, May 12, AsiaPort -- Compaq set up a network classroom last week to teach Shanghai
teenagers how to use the Internet in response to a nationwide information project. The project plans to
establish 1,000 network classrooms for youngsters nationwide. The company has donated computers
worth 5 million RMB yuan (US$ 600,000) to China's 12 network classrooms including one in Shanghai.
"The donation aims to arouse more Chinese young people's interests in computers and increase
awareness of the Internet," a Compaq source said. Compaq, with annual sales of US$ 40 billion,
vows to closely cooperate with Chinese partners to expand market shares, the source said.
