Wait until you get to high school biology, if you have not already. They try to teach them biochemistry instead of how to identify a frog's liver or excise the notochord of a crawfish. One of the worst intellectual defeats I have suffered in my life was to try to understand my daughter's high school biology text. They might as well be giving them the Odyssey in Greek. I think it's some misguided effort to make sure any future biologist is up to speed as early as possible, but the net effect is to leave most kids ignorant of simple facts.
