Agreed that Omnitracs is an excellent business with good potential for driving its model into other industries/applications. That said, doing an IPO and spinning part off to shareholders would not necessarily impair that future and might conceivably enhance it. Shareholders would still own it [if they wanted to] and Q would get the benefit of freeing up some capital for other uses [recognizing this assumes Q would have better uses for the capital that are currently going unfunded]. The idea is simply to bring out the underlying values which you could argue are somewhat hidden from the marketplace. Also, since Omni is presently growing slower than the rest of Q, the remainder of Q might actually command a higher multiple of remaining earnings after spinoff. Whether that is justified is another question. Anyway, glad to see a little discussion of the idea. No harm in thinking aloud.
