It is estimated that approximately 70% of Internet traffic runs through Cascade switches. Reports from Vertical Systems Group, a market research firm based in Dedham, Massachusetts, indicate that Cascade has taken the lead in establishing a new Internet infrastructure based on its Frame Relay and ATM switches. This new infrastructure overcomes major Internet challenges today, such as meeting explosive growth, management of new applications, and delivering higher network access speeds.
"Fueled by the rapid deployment of Cell and Frame switching technology in the ISP market, Cascade has established itself as the leading vendor of switching equipment to ISPs," said Rick Malone, principal for Vertical Systems Group. "Cascade is also the leading Carrier Switch provider in the Frame Relay segment with an estimated 30% share of the worldwide market in 1996."
Providing high port density and network capacity, the B-STDX is the only Frame Relay switch to support channelized DS3. The DS3 module provides ISPs with the cost efficiency and manageability to meet demand for high speed data and Internet services. Cascade also recently introduced Priority Frame Relay, a breakthrough software technology that delivers ATM-like Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees to Frame Relay and allows service providers to offer their customers services tailored to a broad range of applications with different network delivery requirements.
In addition, CascadeView Network Management System, was selected to manage these rapidly expanding Internet services, addressing critical network requirements such as scalability, mission-critical event notification, and the need to provide services quickly. CascadeView provides intelligent, automated proactive management applications that facilitate network operations. The selection of the CascadeView Network Management System will enable ISPs to respond quickly to customer demands for increased bandwidth with a simple point and click. |
