There's an interesting article in this week's Newsweek, "Bell of the Brawl - After a bruising courtship AT & T dances with just about everybody." Just the title had me laughing. You're quite right about the complexity of opening the lines. Although, that's what people said when they broke up Ma bell. In a nutshell, the article came to the conclusion that this was an ongoing soap opera with a lot of powerful characters. The bottom line, in my mind, is that AOL has a huge customer base, that everyone wants access to. The deals aren't done, and as this piece suggests, "don't discount the possibility of AOL reaching a future deal with AT & T." AOL has a tremendous bargaining position, and I don't expect Mr. Case will disappoint the shareholders. Some patience is required here. As Jenne said, the news today is all about cable.
