I used to dream of tornadoes. I occasionally still do. They are rarely bad dreams - in fact they are often more awestruck dreams.
My earthquake dreams (which started right after the '89 event. I was still in Boston at the time, but awaiting the recruitment trip to where I ended up!) are invariably fearful. Sometimes such that i wake up moaning.
I have an earthquake dream maybe every few months. I useta be unflappable in this regard. I heard news pieces about folks in CA who got the dreams after the '89 quake, or other earlier shakers in Jfred's area codes. I did scoff, I confess. But now I have the dreams too, regardless of whether I think it's rational or not. The things frighten me at a primitive brainstem level.

The thing about an eartquake is that it is so completely without warning. Tornadoes, tidal waves ... give you several minutes to bolt into the basement or something. A quake is Right There, Baby - within a second or two.
And the San Fran Bay Area is overdue for a Kobe-class event on one of the East Bay faults. X and Melinda are probably acutely aware of that.
