OZ no disrespect intended, but
I believe that there are some invalid assumptions that have been made concerning the complexity of creating a viable comercial web site. I will not address the 'look' because that's a subjective judgement.
The real essence is a full function web site, and this is not a trivial task. The back-end routines are the most difficult to design, implement and support. This is particularly true when planning for potentially large numbers of users. Scalability to allow for growth must be considered, security to protect sensitive data, shipping manifest routines, credit card authorizations, returned merchandise processing, issuing credits for returns, inventory management and managing large volumes of data with system redundancy to ensure continued operations are all very complex tasks. Typically, these require considerable resources, time, lots of planning, extensive testing and of course money.
Complex sites are not developed in a few days or weeks. Let the company management manage the schedule. Hopefully, we will see profitable results in the future.
Your efforts are to be commended, you developed a view of a site that I happen to like.
