I think the dream is the medium rather than the message. I have more earthquake dreams when I am stressed. Although my most common natural catastrophe dream is a tidal wave.

On the other hand, though, when I went through my first mild earthquake (in Tokyo), sufficient to have the lamps in my hotel room doing an impression of a drunk wearing a lampshade on his head, I subsequently had a rash of earthquake dreams that lasted a few months after that. There is nothing more unnerving than the first five seconds of an earthquake, because you don't know when it starts if it is The Big One or not.
